Krispy Kreme to Start Testing New Shakes

Krispy Kreme will be testing its new doughnut shakes at five Triad shops for a limited time, according to the Greensboro News & Record.

The milk shakes are based on its doughnuts and combine soft-serve ice cream and cake doughnuts.

The shakes come in three flavors: Original Glazed, Chocolate Cake and Raspberry Filled.

Friends of John Coltrane Hosting Dinner Saturday

The Friends of John Coltrane will host the second annual Jazzy Dinner and Silent Auction Saturday in High Point.

The event takes place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at 100 High Restaurant at 101 S. Main St.

The organization is hosting the fundraiser to support the John Coltrane International Jazz and Blues Festival.

The festival is scheduled for Sept. 3 at Oak Hollow Festival Park in High Point.

The Friends of John Coltrane is a group dedicated to honoring and preserving Coltrane's legacy.

Coltrane was a prolific jazz saxophonist and composer who grew up in High Point.

Tickets to Saturday's event cost $35. Food is included and saxophonist Lynn Woods will provide music.

Free Cone Day is a way for Ben & Jerry's to thank customers for 33 years of business.

Ben & Jerry's is also offering a new iPhone and droid app to guide customers to their nearest location.

Rise in Food Prices Changes Eating Habits

Rising food prices are forcing local consumers to become more savvy, according to the High Point Enterprise.

Beth Thomas of High Point said she usually shops at the Harris Teeter on Eastchester Drive.

“I’m using more coupons, and I compare store brands to name brands,” Thomas said, according to the High Point Enterprise.

Stamatis Sarrimanolis, owner of Alex’s House on N. Main Street, said the rising cost of food makes affects his restaurant's business.

“In a small business like ours, we can’t afford to raise prices,” he said, according to the High Point Enterprise.

Cheerleaders to Host Flapjack Fundraiser at Applebee's Saturday

The Greensboro All Star Cheerleading Squad will host a flapjack fundraiser at 7 a.m. Saturday at Applebee’s restaurant at 3865 John Gordon Lane.

Breakfast will include a short stack of pancakes, sausage, milk, juice and coffee according to a press release.

All proceeds raised will help the team with travel expenses and overall cheerleading costs.

Tickets are $7 and can be purchased by contacting Jim Hudson at (508) 345-4172.

The Apple Gold Group, franchisee of Applebee’s restaurants in North Carolina, Oklahoma and Arkansas, is partnering with the cheerleaders to sponsor the event.

City Council Approves Permit for Billiards Parlor and Bar

The City Council unanimously approved a special-use permit Monday for the proprietor of an entertainment venue planning a new establishment, according to the High Point Enterprise.

The permit allows Gary W. Redd Jr. to open a billiards parlor and bar in a vacant office building at 1813 N. Main St.

Redd previously operated the Red Lion bar and an adjoining billiards facility, Lion’s Liar, on Kirkwood Street.

He had to get special permission from the city because the planned capacity of the new facility will have a maximum capacity of 145, according to the paper.

The second floor of the building will not be used and will be secured in accordance to state building code regulations.

Chick-fil-A to Reopen Thursday After Renovation

The Chick-fil-A at 2700 N. Main St. will reopen its doors Thursday after a full restaurant renovation.

The remodeled restaurant will feature a multi-lane drive-thru, new landscaping, a complete interior redesign, a new parking lot and additional seating.

A grand re-opening celebration takes place Wednesday and Thursday.

From 12 to 1 p.m. both days, customers will have the chance to win free plush cows that will parachute off the roof.

From 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, a magician and balloon artist will perform and children will receive a free kid’s size shamrock cones.
