High Point man claims $1 million lottery prize

HIGH POINT, N.C. — A High Point man has claimed a $1 million lottery prize.

N.C. Education Lottery officials announced Wednesday that Robert Bryson, a health club owner from High Point, won the prize instantly through the “20X the Money” scratch-off game.

Officials say Bryson drove home immediately to share the news with his wife on Friday after scratching the ticket and revealing the prize outside the Kangaroo Express on Westchester Drive.

“it’s pretty awesome,” Bryson said when he collected his winnings at the lottery headquarters in Raleigh.  “It’s hit me.  I’m stunned.”

Instead of claiming the prize in annuity payments of $50,000 a year over 20 years, Bryson chose the $600,000 cash option, officials said.

The value of the prize after taxes is $408,003.

Bryson says he plans to take his family on a vacation and save for the future with his winnings.
